With this influx comes the challenge of safety, logistics, and environmental vulnerability. And that’s where Operation Shiva comes in.

What is Operation Shiva by Army for Amarnath Yatra 2025 ?

Operation Shiva is a full-scale, multi-agency military-security operation led by the Indian Army, launched specifically to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra.

As the snow-capped paths of the Himalayas once again echo with chants of “Har Har Mahadev,” India has stepped up its security efforts for one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimages — the Amarnath Yatra.

The Kashmir valley has recently seen heightened tensions, including cross-border infiltration, drone intrusions, and multiple terrorist attacks, such as the deadly strike in Reasi (June 2024) and the more recent April 2025 Pahalgam attack.

Intelligence reports warned of planned assaults by Pakistan-based terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

This intelligence, combined with the need for improved crowd management, high-altitude medical response, and adverse weather preparedness, prompted the Indian Army to act swiftly.

Faith, Force, and the Future

The Amarnath Yatra is more than a religious journey — it’s a test of endurance, devotion, and, increasingly, national security.

Operation Shiva is a testament to India’s evolving approach in safeguarding civilian lives through military-grade precision, cutting-edge technology, and inter-agency coordination.

As lakhs of pilgrims climb toward the sacred cave in the belief of divine blessings, the Army and security forces remain watchful — silent sentinels of faith, unity, and resilience in the shadow of the Himalayas.
